I often start out by deciding what Action I want viewers to
take, and work backwards. I save the script as email (drafts) to myself
so that it will be handy when I'm online. It may take a few days before
a clear idea comes from the brain onto paper (or some computer file).
A popular "format" to use is called A.I.D.A., which stands for
Attention - Interest - Desire - Action.
The first part of your video captures Attention.
Next, you must show something to Interest the viewers.
Third, create a Desire for what you offer.
And finally, tell what Action you want them to take
immediately.
Take a sheet of paper and make a column of numbers, as such:
5________________________________________
10_______________________________________
15_______________________________________
20_______________________________________
25_______________________________________
30_______________________________________
On each line, write what you expect to say during those
5 seconds or so. If doing longer than a :30 second commercial
just revise the above as necessary. Pencils with erasers
come in handy here!
Next, go back and decide what pictures or video shots should go into
each 5 second segment.
